About GZIP Decompression

GZIP decompression extracts files that were compressed with the GZIP format. This tool automatically detects and decompresses .gz files, restoring them to their original state.

Common Uses

  • Log Files: Extract compressed server logs for analysis
  • Archives: Decompress .tar.gz archives (extract the .tar file after decompression)
  • Backups: Restore compressed backup files
  • Downloads: Extract compressed downloads from Linux/Unix systems
Note: If you have a .tar.gz file, this tool will extract the .gz compression. You'll then need to use a TAR extractor to get the individual files from the .tar archive.
